2 bedroom Townhouse
Sleeps up to 6
A fabulous, 3-storey fisherman's cottage right by the water in the heart of Ferragudo, a still working fishing port where the little boasts still land their catch, sold in the fish market just along the quayside. Ferragudo lies to the west of Carvoeiro at the mouth of the Arade river giving shelter from the Atlantic rollers, it has fabulous beaches within a five minute stroll and a wide range of water sports in its calm waters. Although it has a small village atmosphere, it has a great range of restaurants and all the facilities you’ll need for a relaxed holiday including cash machines and even a Lidl supermarket.
There’s also a very handy, modern bridge over to Portimao (although it seems easier to swim across) worth a visit for shopping, dining and more fabulous beaches. The Pestana golf courses and the tennis centre are just a few minute’s drive back up the hill towards Lagoa with the resorts and beaches of Carvoeiro just a little further on.
The original cottage, built in 1937 has just been totally refurbished to give guests a comfortable and modern stay in a traditional building where as much of the character as possible has been retained, it’s a bit quirky. The best feature is the private roof-top terrace, reached by a stone spiral staircase. You arrive at a large space, comfortably furnished with a huge rattan sofa and a barbecue and the most amazing views of the quay and the boats moored below, across the water to Portimao and glimpses of golden sandy beaches.
The main living accommodation is on the first floor, there’s a small but well equipped kitchen with granite work tops and everything you’ll need, comfortable and cosy living and dining space with TV and a wood burner for even cosier nights in the off season. Small double bedroom with storage space and adjacent shower room with terracotta floors. A door from the kitchen exits to the street at the rear where local fishermen often mend their nets. Internal steps down to the ground floor and the main bedroom with king-size bed, built-in robes and a shower room. There’s a small utility room with the washing machine and bunks for two children, hallway with door out to the quayside with shops, market and restaurants all within about 50 meters.
A big fan of quirky and holiday properties that are a little different, if you’re OK with the stairs and the spiral up to the roof terrace, you will love this cottage as much as I do. It’s been lovingly restored and has all the creature comforts you’ll need plus bags of charm and character that’s totally in keeping with its authentic fishing village location. Imagine evenings on the roof terrace, with fish straight from the barbecue and a bottle of something good whilst you take in those glorious views, it’s magic! The bedrooms have ceiling fans and the thick walls and window shutters help keep the interior cool during the height of summer, whilst underfloor heating in the bathrooms is a delight at any time of the year.
We see this property as being most suited to couples, perhaps two, the roof space isn’t ideal for young children prone to climbing so bear that in mind.
