Staying at a holiday villa gives the opportunity to indulge in a lifestyle that’s not always attainable at home, whether it’s ultra modern sleek lines, luxurious opulence or old world character that you seek, your choice of holiday villa is a statement. Casa Grego has been making a statement since the early 1800’s, when the farmhouse stood alone on the crest of the ridge above Sao Raphael beach with beautiful views to the sea. Nowadays Grego has a few neighbours, but nothing too close, still reached by a gravel road and mains water has rendered the well redundant but it’s still full of character and especially welcoming to families with children looking for a summer holiday in a truly magical spot.
From the terrace and gardens, and especially from the roof terrace are spectacular views of the rock stacks near Arrifes beach, a glimpse of the golden sand and an expanse of blue sea. You can walk to the shore and a largely deserted beach then follow the footpath along the shore to Arrifes beach, which has a restaurant, whilst the well-known beach at Sao Rafael is a little further on. You can also walk into the resort of Sao Rafael for a selection of restaurants, bars and handy shops.
You’re within easy reach of shopping and local restaurants and not far from Albufeira, which is worth a visit for the markets, exploring the maze of streets in the old town, the views and the beaches.
Within its enclosed grounds is the main house, with a warren of rooms on either side of the living and dining room which has a cosy snug by the wood burner, comfortable sofas, satellite TV and wifi. At the far end is the main bedroom wing, there’s a spacious double bedroom, a large room with three single beds and a pink twin room for the girls, all done out with traditional Alentejo painted furniture. There’s also a shower room and a separate toilet.
At the near end by the entrance is a comfortable double bedroom with built-in vanity, there’s an adjacent bathroom with over-bath shower and utility room beyond with washing machine. The piece de resistance is the newly fitted kitchen, which is modern, well equipped and boasts clean, sleek lines which juxtapose with the ancient character of the house. There’s a dishwasher, ceramic hob, huge fridge freezer and a second fridge for extra drinks.
Outside on the terrace is a large dining table beneath extensive canvas sunshade and over a little wall is an enclosed area like a little football stadium. The pool is accessed through a latching gate to help discourage unsupervised toddlers from reaching the water, the large pool has steps into the shallow end and there’s lots of room for sun beds. There’s a barbecue house on one side of the pool with charcoal grill so the chef is still amongst everyone and on the other side is a modern yet simple guest suite with a double bedroom, toilet and shower behind a glass screen.
